What Google Workspace does in Shuffl

Google Workspace is the directory at many companies. Connect it to fill People with everyone, their titles, managers and Google Groups, and let people sign in with Google.

You need to be a Shuffl workspace administrator, with an administrator in Google Workspace for the steps there.

Connect Google Workspace to People

  1. In Shuffl, open People, then the Sync tab. Under Add a source, choose Connect on Google Workspace.
  2. Sign in with a Google Workspace administrator account that can read users.
  3. Allow Shuffl to see the users and groups in your domain. Groups become teams in People.
  4. If Google says the app is blocked, trust Shuffl in the Admin console under Security → API controls → App access control, then connect again.
  5. Shuffl reads your people before it saves the connection, and the first sync runs straight away.
  6. Review the new people in People and enable access for those who should use Shuffl. A sync never turns access on.

What comes in

Shuffl reads Google Workspace once a day. Sync now on its card reads it at once. Shuffl only reads; it never changes anything in Google Workspace.

Google Workspace’s values replace People’s on every read, so fix a wrong title or manager in Google Workspace. A blank keeps what People has.

From Google Workspace into Shuffl

  • Everyone, with names and work emails
  • Job titles
  • Managers
  • Departments
  • Teams and groups, the ones you choose
  • Leavers

What it does for HR

In Shuffl

  • Managers fill the org chart, so playbook meet steps, manager to-dos and 30/60/90 plans reach the right person.
  • Departments become department groups, so Pulse, eNPS and Culture compare teams without exposing anyone.
  • Teams you bring in become synced groups for Pulse questions, automations, Connections and messages.
  • Suspended or removed accounts lose their Shuffl access.
  • Mello knows each person’s title, manager and department when it answers.

Sign in with Google Workspace

  1. In Shuffl, open Settings → Workspace → Integrations → Single sign-on, choose Add connection and pick SAML. Keep the values it shows open.
  2. In the Google Admin console, open Apps, then Web and mobile apps, and add a custom SAML app. Download the IdP metadata on the way.
  3. Paste the ACS URL and entity ID, and the login URL into Start URL. Set Name ID format to EMAIL and Name ID to Primary email. Leave Signed response off.
  4. Turn the app on for the organizational units who should sign in.
  5. Add the DNS TXT record the connection shows at your DNS provider, then choose Check DNS record until it reads Verified.
  6. In a private window, choose Sign in with SSO with a work email that is in People with access enabled.

Single sign-on proves who someone is; People still decides who gets in. Set up People first, and password sign-in keeps working while you test.

Good to know

If Google says the app is blocked, trust Shuffl in the Admin console under Security → API controls → App access control, then connect again.

Groups list their direct members; nested groups aren’t expanded. Google Workspace doesn’t send SCIM to custom apps, so People → Sync is the way in.

With your other systems

Google Workspace has no start dates. Type them in People, or connect your HR system first so it owns them; a blank from Google keeps what People has.

If it stops working

When a card reads Needs attention, Google Workspace refused Shuffl’s key or sign-in. Create a new one in Google Workspace and connect again; Shuffl replaces the stored one. A failed run changes nobody.

Disconnect stops syncing and deletes the stored key. Everyone stays in People to edit by hand.
