Use Shuffl with BambooHR

Connect BambooHR to keep People current and let Mello answer from your documents, and see what Shuffl does with it.

What BambooHR does in Shuffl

BambooHR is where many HR teams keep the employee record. Connect it once and People, onboarding playbooks and celebrations follow it. Mello can also answer from the company files you pick.

You need to be a Shuffl workspace administrator, with an administrator in BambooHR for the steps there.

Connect BambooHR to People

  1. In Shuffl, open People, then the Sync tab. Under Add a source, choose Connect on BambooHR.
  2. Sign in to BambooHR as an administrator, open your name in the top right, choose API Keys and add a key named Shuffl.
  3. Paste the key and your company domain into Shuffl. Shuffl reads your employees before saving anything.
  4. Shuffl registers a webhook with the same key so changes arrive as they happen, and reads everything once a day as well.
  5. Choose Connect and sync. The first sync runs straight away and says how many people were new or linked.
  6. Review the new people in People and enable access for those who should use Shuffl. A sync never turns access on.

What comes in

Changes arrive as they happen, and Shuffl also reads BambooHR once a day. Shuffl only reads; it never changes anything in BambooHR.

BambooHR’s values replace People’s on every read, so fix a wrong title or manager in BambooHR. A blank keeps what People has.

From BambooHR into Shuffl

What it does for HR

In Shuffl

  • Start dates start onboarding playbooks on their own, put new hires on Home and drive work anniversaries.
  • Managers fill the org chart, so playbook meet steps, manager to-dos and 30/60/90 plans reach the right person.
  • Departments become department groups, so Pulse, eNPS and Culture compare teams without exposing anyone.
  • Leavers lose access when they leave, and a termination date sets their last day, which can start a leaving playbook.
  • Mello tells each employee their own time-off balance in a private chat, in BambooHR’s policy names.
  • Mello knows each person’s title, manager and department when it answers.

Answer from BambooHR

  1. On Knowledge → Connections, choose Connect next to BambooHR.
  2. In BambooHR, create an API key from your account menu.
  3. Enter your company domain and the key into Shuffl. Shuffl checks it with one read of the company file list before saving.
  4. Pick files from a category; each is read as a draft for review. Employee files are never listed.
  5. Check the draft’s text, audience and review date, then publish it.

Shuffl reads: PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Markdown, HTML, text. You pick each one, and Shuffl never writes to BambooHR.

In Shuffl

  • Mello answers from what you publish, with a citation, to the audience you set.
  • A new version in BambooHR becomes a draft for HR to review. The old text stops being used once the change is found.
  • Disconnecting withdraws every document it brought in. The originals stay where they are.

Good to know

Shuffl adds a webhook with the same key, so hires, changes and leavers arrive as they happen. Without one it reads once a day.

Make the key as an administrator who can see every employee. Employee files are never read; only the company files you pick become Knowledge.

With your other systems

Connect your HR system before an identity provider such as Okta, so it owns start dates, managers and departments. Slack and single sign-on keep names and emails.

If it stops working

When a card reads Needs attention, BambooHR refused Shuffl’s key or sign-in. Create a new one in BambooHR and connect again; Shuffl replaces the stored one. A failed run changes nobody.

Disconnect stops syncing and deletes the stored key. Everyone stays in People to edit by hand.
